In the early hours of this morning, Caldwell police officers demonstrated exceptional bravery and commitment to public safety during a dramatic incident involving a stolen vehicle.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., an officer on patrol observed a vehicle speeding through a stop sign near Linden and Michigan. The vehicle’s trunk was suspiciously open, prompting the officer to activate his lights and initiate a traffic stop. However, instead of yielding, the driver sped away, leading officers on a short pursuit.

The chase continued westbound on Linden for two blocks before the vehicle turned into an alley. In an unexpected turn of events, the driver, later identified as 22-year-old William Medina-Hernandez, abandoned the moving vehicle and fled on foot. The vehicle, still in drive, came to a stop after minimal contact with a shed, thanks to a nearby curb.

Displaying quick thinking and resolve, the officer pursued Medina-Hernandez on foot, catching him one block away. The suspect was detained without incident, ensuring no harm to the community or officers involved.

A subsequent investigation revealed that the vehicle had recently been stolen from a car lot in Nampa. Medina-Hernandez now faces a series of serious charges, including:

• Resisting and obstructing an officer
